Season's Bleedings

Well Morgan and I have returned from Puerto Vallarta and Portland. Mexico was great and I’ll put up some pictures on the next post. But right now I want to talk about the Season’s Bleedings film festival. The second Gore-A-Rama-A-Go-Go was on Saturday Dec. 18th at 0pm. There were 16 films shown mine was number 3. Most of the films were excellent, some were very, very bad. My least favorite movie was “Beer and Nine” I think it was summed up best when the judge rating on a scale from 1 to 10 gave it a question mark.

I was completely nervous and freaked out. I wanted to sit in the back by the door in case the audience hated it and started booing and throwing beer bottles at the screen, but LL Robot reserved me a table right in front of the screen. Morgan kept rubbing my back and telling me to calm down, which I finally did about two movies after mine was shown. I was pretty scared but the audience seemed to really dig it. They laughed at the right places and I got a lot of applause at the end. Even though my movie was in the exhibition category and not being judged, Daria O’Neil who was one of the judges (and my favorite DJ when I lived in Portland) had some very nice words for my little film. All in all I’m glad I did it and I’ll probably start making a lot more films and start writing more scripts.

Here are some Pictures.

This is me and LL Robot before the show.
Morgan got some kind of bloody present from a Zombie Santa.
This is one of the lovely Gore Whores who were selling the raffle tickets that benefited p:ear.
Old friends reunited, LL Robot, X-Jan & Chuck.

The Doctor is Out

I’m off on vacation, I haven’t had one in a year and I’m going to relish it. I’ll be in Puerto Vallarta Mexico for two weeks, and the film isn’t done yet....the soundtrack isn’t finished and it needs to be added. I’m not sure it will get finished while I'm gone but I can hope. No posts for two weeks, but lots of pics when I get back.

Take care folks,

No more Artifacts, Sex or Hitler

My wife just watches some really funky stuff on the digital cable. The night started out all right with John Cusack in “Grosse Point Blank” (I love that movie), and then that was followed by a pretty good “Mad TV” (there was this skit where these three midgets beat down a fat California Highway Patrol officer that was freakin’ High-larious.), but then she started watching all of her odd HBO "Real (gay.....uh...Not That There's Anything Wrong With That) Sex" and Discovery Channel Jonestown (not the cult but the early settlement) artifacts shows and then she finished up with a look into the private life of Hitler (which she is lying in bed right now watching as she falls asleep.) on the History Channel. I love her, but I can’t sit still for her choice in television programming. I’m going to watch my normal choice of television viewing starting with “Smallville” and follow it up with the DVD “Dead Leaves” now that she's gone to bed.

We got a rough-cut of the Slasher film done this week. It should be finished by the time I leave for Mexico next Tuesday. I haven’t been able to grab any stills from it but I’ll try to get some online before I leave.

One thing I know for sure in life is that B. Alan Orange “Hates Oliver Stone and his Stupid Movie”. I shudder to think what kind of review Mr. Orange would give my Slasher flick. He probably would have liked it back when we were in college together. I do have to say that the aforementioned article on Movieweb is one of the funniest things I’ve read since B. Alan interviewed the guys that made “Saw”

That's A Wrap

The Slasher film is in the Can! I showed up at the shoot at 10am today and we started rolling at 11:30pm. We shot all day and wrapped at 10:30pm. It's all done all I have to do is edit it. I took my camera, but we were so busy I never snapped one photo, sorry. My back is killing me from my death scene, I was suspended on a rope about 4 feet off the ground, and I was wearing a climbing harness under my cloths, and I had it on backwards so I would hang the right way. Since it was backwards it jacked up my back. Aw well I've asked others to suffer for my art, it was way past my turn.

Wonder Boy

The Toledo Blade did yet another article on my good friend Jon, which you can view, HERE.

And in honor of my good buddy here are some tasty lyrics for you to chew on provided by the GREATEST BAND ON EARTH!

High above the mucky-muck, castle made of clouds,
There sits Wonderboy, sitting oh so proudly.
Not much to say when you're high above the mucky-muck.
Yeah, yeah.
Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
Wonderboy, won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck man?

[spoken] Now it's time for me to tell you about Young Nastyman,
archrival and nemesis of Wonderboy, with powers comparable to Wonderboy.
What powers you ask? I dunno how 'bout the power of flight? That do anything for ya?
That's levitation, holmes.
How 'bout the power to kill a yak from 200 yards away... with mind bullets!
That's telekinesis, Kyle.
How 'bout the power to move you?

[sung] History of Wonderboy and Young Nastyman,
Riggah-goo-goo, riggah-goo-goo.
A secret to be told, a gold chest to behold,
And blasting forth with three-part harmony, yeow!
Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
Wonderboy, won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck man?

[spoken] Well, Wonderboy and Young Nastyman joined forces;
they formed a band the likes of which have never been seen,
and they called themselves Tenacious D.
That's right, [sung] Me!
And KG! [KG (spoken):] That's me. [sung]
We're now Tenacious D!
Come fly with me, fly!

Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
Wonderboy, won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck man,
Oh! [spoken] Take my hand!
Young Nastyman, and we'll fly!
Bring out your broadsword.
There's the hydra.
Slit his throat!
And grab his scroat.
You take the high road,
I'll take the low.
There, the crevasse,
Fill it with your mighty juice.

From behind the lens to in front of the lens,

Well the guy playing the beatnik in my film has quit. Not a big surprise, all he did was whine about how cold he was on our first day of shooting. There were girls out there wearing dresses with like 1% body fat that didn't make a peep and this wimp was crying "I'm so cold, I'm gonna pass out." Suck it up Sissy Boy! Not letting it get me down at all though, I'd hoped to stay behind the camera, but I'm just going to step into the roll, I wasn't convinced he could deliver the dialog I wrote anyway, at least I know I'll read it the way I want it. We only shot one thing with him anyway and it was just a quick shot, so no major re shooting has to be done.

One more quick thing before I go. There have been rumblings for some time of a possible Green Lantern movie (probably my third favorite super hero of all time). According to Dark Horizons "An interesting casting rumor has emerged -- Ben Browder." Sweeeeet, if it happens, Farscape kicks major bee-hind.

First day of shooting

Well I started shooting my slasher flick for Seasons Bleedings today and things went so so. Things went wacko at first when we lost our lead actress that my director of photography hooked up 2 hours before the shoot. Fortunately my fellow director Melanie who was set to play an extra stepped up to the plate and said she would do it and she was damned good too. Since we got off to a late start we didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped today, but we did get a lot shot, so I’m confident that well get it done in time. Anyway here are some fun pics from today’s shoot.

Ray (before Morgan styled the wig he was wearing) and Melanie who are playing our two leads, Max Fontaine and Francine run there lines as DP and co-writer Barkley and a Beanie laden James Graves enjoy their read through.
The Assistant Director Andrew is screwing around with a Machete. STOP SCREWING AROUND ANDREW!

I SAID STOP SCREWING AROUND ANDREW!

Chuck the director is ready to get the shot.

Actually Chuck is just freakin’ scared.

What are you, Freakin' nuts Chuck?! Yep.

Halloween at Martino’s 2004

Okay here are some Pics from Halloween that I’ve been meaning to put up.

Morgan and me as Mork and Mindy. Morgan made my Mork Costume.

My buddy Chandra as Alex from Clockwork Orange, she's tall really tall. There's a flask in that codpiece, I'm not kidding.

See I told you there was a flask in there.

Angela and Cal. Angela is like a dance hall girl or something and Cal is just sleepy really...really sleepy.

Don't know who this guy is, but he had one sweet Space Ghost Costume.

This all reminds me I saw “The Incredibles” last week and it was fantastic. It’s my favorite PIXAR movie ever. Imagine that me really liking a movie about super heroes. I dug up this picture that I took in May or June of this year. Pretty good huh. No idea who this is, it's from this years OSF scene shop party. Bet this guy was first in line for the movie, since he was wearing a costume of the main character like five months before it was released and the general public had no idea what it was.

Got to go to sleep, big day of filming tomorrow.

Moving on moving up and just living

Hello folks, been awhile and I've been pretty busy. I start shooting my slasher film on Saturday, that's a week behind schedule but we should still be good. And for those of you who asked yes indeed LLR is that guy who goes by two initials from college. Oh and I know I know I still have to post Halloween pictures. I'm getting around to it.

Big news for my buddy Jon, he got a Sweet New Job. Here's the letter he sent out announcing it.

Crap Crap Crappity Crap

Well the people of America have spoken, and they have said that they want four more years of crap. John Kerry will concede today at 1pm and the U.S.A. will miss out on having a great man as it's commander and chief. I've been at work since 4am Tuesday morning and I'm not out of here until noon today. I'm cranky and tired and I just want to go home and sleep and sulk.

Two posts in as many days...What is he nuts?

I might very well be. I just have to put this out in the universe so I can get off my butt and make it happened. I decided yesterday to write and direct a short slasher film for LLR's short film festival, Gore-o-Rama-a-Go-Go! I've already got a good number of people on board to help out. I should be able to have a script written by the end of the week and I've already secured a location to shoot and several slasher type props. With any luck we'll be able to shoot it shortly after Halloween, I'm thinking a one night Marathon shoot. Now I need to procure actors. I have a guy in mind for the male lead and he'd be perfect, but I might run into trouble since he's lens meat here at work and the higher ups might not take kindly to him being in a independent blood bath of a short film. I think if we disguise him up really good and he uses his alias, and I promise that it will only be shown in Portland we'll be just fine.

Well wish me luck,

I’ve Been a bad Geek

It’s been so long since I posted anything. I’ve keep meaning to and I would think about it every day because things kept happening that I wanted to write about and I just kept putting it off. No real reason that I put it off for so long though, I mean I have been a little preoccupied with the fact that like 5 people in Pine Valley and like 7 people in Llanview want to kill that psycho sleaze Paul Cramer. When you got that many people from two different shows wanting to see you in the ground you know you don’t have long to keep breathing. Not to mention Corbin Bernsen’s been revealed as Carly’s dad on General Hospital and he’s just plan nuts in real life. My buddy Ray told me this story about Corbin Bernsen a couple of years ago, a friend of Ray’s was working on some movie (I don’t know which one) as a PA and Bernsen was in it. She went over to him and told him that the cast was being called to the set from lunch. After she told him she said to him something like, “You know Mr. Bernsen you’re him right you’re just That Guy aren’t you? I mean I was watching you while everyone was at lunch, and you were just sitting over there reading your script, studying your lines and getting into your character, you're him huh, you’re That Guy.” Then he just nodded his head and said, “Yeah I’m That Guy......AND YOU’RE A WHORE!”......What a freak.

Listen up anyone in Portland Little Lost Robot is putting on the second Gore-o-rama A-go-go film festival this December in P town. It’s the weekend I get back from Mexico and I’m still going to be in vacation mode, so I’m planning on going. I can’t wait to see some good (or bad) homemade horror movies. I finally saw “Shaun Of The Dead” and it was freakin’ great, I give it four and half out of five severed heads. Speaking of LLR he gave me a shout out a couple of weeks ago on his site, thanks Bot.

Wow I rambled a lot and didn’t say a damn thing. Happy Halloween everyone, I’ll post some pics next week. Make sure you vote.

Christopher Reeve 1952-2004

Anyone who knows me even a little bit, knows how near and dear this man was to my heart. I found out at 4am when I went into work today that he had passed away on Sunday. It really broke my heart, I know that everyone is telling me that he’s in a better place, but I always thought I’d get the chance to see him walk again, I’ve prayed for that every night before going to sleep for the last nine years. I will miss him very much.

Back Again

A wise man once said "Life Moves Pretty Fast, If You Don't Stop And Take A Look Around Once And A While You Could Miss It." Then he went to Ireland and got into a car accident with Jennifer Grey and killed a mother and her little daughter, while he may have been intoxicated.

Anyway my point is life has been moving pretty fast so it's been 2 weeks since a post, and this is going to be a short one.

I made a dude cry at work this week, which pretty much sucked. But it also reminds me of what another wise man once said, There's No Crying In Television", or was that baseball? Either way it should apply to both.

One more thing Anime Popeye could very well be one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

September 11th, 2004

3 Years have passed since the attacks on New York. I’ll never forget that day. I had only been back at the station for a little under a month when it happened. I left initially 2 years prior because I wasn’t able to handle the stories of death after grandma and grandpa passed away. When the phone woke me up and I turned on the TV just after the second tower fell I wasn’t even sure that I was going to make it through the day, but I was in the car and heading to work because I knew the day would be probably one of the most hectic of all of our lives. There was a lot of slipping into dark corners and weeping that day at work for everybody, myself included, but we all held it together and everyone I work with was able to get through the day with sensitivity and grace. Except for one of the sales guys that just kept talking out of his @$$ about what we should do and what he would have done to have kept it from happening, but he’s always been a real @$$ for as long as I can remember.

Did anyone happen to see our esteemed vice president on TV this week? He basically said that if we don’t vote for George Bush and John Kerry gets elected, America will be attacked again and it will be 9/11 all over again. That crap should be illegal. But there you have the same fear generating tactics that they’ve been doing since we got attacked in the first place. It’s like Cheney is hoping that we’ll all forget (sad to say most have) that the attacks on 9/11 happened under this administrations watch, a day after this administration voted to not increase the budget for homeland security. I know that a vote the day before it happened wouldn’t have stopped it, but the point is, that decision just goes to show what their mindset on homeland security was at the time, and don’t even get me started on the report given to the president that warned against attacks within the U.S. forthcoming.

Well I’ll get off my soapbox now. It’s just that I hate to see them try to use the deaths of all of those people to try and steal this election.

Morgan got me this really cool John Kerry Shirt at John Kerry’s Site.
I can’t wear it at work, so I always wear it on the weekends. A guy at the gas station said it looks like an old beer logo, I guess it kinda looks a little like the old Miller label.

My Brain is Fried

I stayed up way too late last night I watched the season premier of That 70's Show and then for some reason I started watching Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, probably the best animated Batman movie put out. And I say that only having watched about 20 minutes of this hour and 20 minute movie. I got so nostalgic watching it that I busted out the VHS (man I need to get the DVD) of Batman the movie with Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton. That movie really holds up, It's about 1000 times better that Batman and Robin, Joel Schumaucher just ran that Franchise into the ground. I have high Hopes for the new movie Batman Begins, which is filming right now. Also can't wait for the premier of The Batman this week on the WB. The new movie has got a whole new style and feel to it, also it's starting from square one It's going back to the roots, darker, edgier, and grittier. And plus most of it is being shot on location and not in the studio, so it will have a real world feel. Anyway I stayed up way too late and had to get up at 3:15 am as always and now I'm dragging. I still have the midday to direct, and then I have to be there at 4:00pm to floor direct the 5:00pm newscast. Fortunately there is only a 5 today so I can get out of here before 7pm.

Audio Learning Center has a new mp3 up to listen to. And scroll on down the page to see a funny manipped photo of the Pres. and Crew as Bat-villians.

Finally a post

Wow, work has been pretty crazy but is finally starting to settle down. I had 42 hours of overtime on my last paycheck, so I basically worked an extra week. I was really starting to feel it around the middle of the second week too. I felt like I was going nuts, I was so tired. I was only averaging about 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night. John Kerry came to town too within that time, I enjoyed that much more than the Cheney visit. Morgan got to be on-stage right behind Kerry during his speech, so she was very stoked. Unfortunately his plane was like an hour late and Morgan got stuck in the parking lot after the speech because traffic leaving was at a stand still. She ended up being late for work, but fortunately her understudy was able to start her show for her and run it until she got there. She was like 20 minutes late but it all turned out okay.

Yesterday was like 98 degrees out, so making a costume that turns two people into conjoined twins while wearing latex masks and just walking around town does not sound like my Idea of a good time, but I guess it does to these two Jokers.

And what's with all the stuffed animal heads? Ah well, you got to love living in Ashland.

ARGH! part 2

Why oh why do I have to cover things like this. All I can say is vote Kerry. The funny thing is that after all of the extra police and all of the secret service officers at the event, two protesters actually got into the rally and got Cheney all shook up. That just does not happen, these things are run tight as a drum and are by invite only. It was pretty funny. But, one of my friends that I work with got shoved around and elbowed in the ribs when he tried to interview one of the protesters after the rally. Not by security mind you, but by the republicans in attendance, because they didn't want his point of view aired. So much for the first amendment, somehow I think if they were the ones protesting a planned parenthood building, they would want to be heard and seen on T.V.

I'm ticked and I'm out,

I haven't posted in almost a month. I haven't been slacking (much) I've just been trying to get used to my new schedule and all the funky stuff that has been going on. I now wake up at 3am and I'm usually at work until noon, but about three days out of the week I work until 7pm.

Today Vice President Cheney is coming to town and we are covering it big time, I 'll be here until 8pm tonight. Let's just hope all goes smooth. This new gig is kinda stressing me out with all the added responsibility, I find myself turning into a prick and I don't like it, so I gotta watch out and try not to make anymore people cry. Victorious Day!

The SCA guy didn't kill me, and work went very well. Not bad.

I figured out how to edit the PSAs that were giving me so much trouble yesterday. It took about another hour, but once I got into actually editing all 10 of them I got it all done in about two hours. All in all I'm glad work is over for now. I don't have to go back until Wednesday and that suits me just fine.

I've just sitting around watching Adult Swim, Get Shorty, and Porn Star. Now I'm switching between Kids in the Hall on DVD (my buddy Chandra gave it to me for my 30th birthday) and BASEketball. I could watch BASEketball every day of my life until I die and it will always be funny. Matt and Trey just rock.

Second Blog entry no better that the first.

Well Still trying to figure out this blog thing. Not going so well, but I'll just keep typing. Work could have been better, It could have been worse. The maddening thing today was that I spent 2 hours trying to edit on the linear editing system (It's a way of editing that that is about 15 years out of date, so if I want to go back in time and get a job as an editor I'm all set) but I couldn't get the darn AMPEX switcher to clip out the key. The main problem is that when I was trained on it I got two days of "loose" training from a guy who just didn't give a rip about his job, so I only know about a fourth of what that system can do. Every time I try to ask the other guy who also edited on it in the past for help, he just kinda kinda mutters something and doesn't bother to actually show me what he's talking about. So I always end up figuring it out myself through a long trial and error process. I'll take another stab at it tomorrow.

Here's something I've been thinking about lately. The last time I saw this guy, he told me was going to L.A. to become an actor. And one of the last times I saw this guy, he was drunk and high on my couch watching Buffalo '66, and he kept telling me he was going to go to L.A., and find Christina Ricci and make her his girlfriend. They're broken up now, but I'll be darned if he didn't do it. Plus I saw him on an episode of 24 two seasons ago. So I think I'm just going to start telling everyone that I'm going to L.A. to become a famous writer slash director, and see what happens.

Well Until then back to work tomorrow on the 4th of July. I hope no one I work with tries to kill me with a broad sword tomorrow (long Story).

I just watched the season finale of "24" and it rocked! I thought Chase was going to die though. It pisses me off that the new season is not going to air until January. ABC and Fox think that they are HBO all of a Sudden. Fresh episodes (Damn You WB for that term) every week are cool and all, but I have been pre-programmed from an early age what broadcast TV is supposed to be. I want my season premiers in the fall.

Is it just me or is the WB's "Superstar USA" The Most deliciously evil program that has ever been on TV. Of course I was a huge fan of "The Joe Schmoe Show" and "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance'".

Well let's try this again later.

I'm out.
